Scoop Spell Manager
Spell Manager is a Mac or Windows application for preparing and updating corporate dictionaries for Scoop Edit.
Scoop Edit normally run with a large, non-editable dictionary, stored locally on Scoop Edit normally run with a large, non-editable dictionary, stored locally on every machine. This dictionary is included with Scoop Edit. In addition to this dictionary, a personal dictionary can be used, where all words end up, created by the feature ”Add” in the spell-checking process. Spell Manager lets you manage the personal dictionaries. They can be centrally merged and edited to create a corporate dictionary.
New words in the list
Every time Scoop Edit is used, that reporter's personal dictionary is automatically copied to the server, where it is saved as a subfolder to the ”SCOOP Setup” folder. Spell Manager merges all these lists into one list and removes the duplicates.
Spellcheck
A problem with personal dictionaries can be misspelled words, because of individual spelling preferences. A user may not recognise an error before clicking the ”Add” button. The combined dictionary therefore edits this list and removes all misspelling. A new merged list is opened using a standard text editor. The editor only removes misspelled words. It does not add new words, or change existing ones.
Compression
An edited list of words is compressed and merged with all the previous lists. It is also possible to re-edit this list, if misspelled words have passed the check. These lists are then compressed and converted to database structure, which makes usage much more efficient.
Updating the workstations
Scoop Updater is used to automatically download a new version of the corporate dictionary, if there is a later version on the server. The personal dictionaries are automatically removed.
Performance
The corporate dictionary replaces large personal dictionaries, which are stored in a standard ASCII text structure. Search in the corporate, database structured dictionary, is much more efficient and requires less memory.
| System requirements |
The program is executed from the server, which must have a file system or SQL database that is accessible from a client. The client can be Macintosh or Windows. |
