Freedom

– get productive in seconds

For the first time, you can write directly to the DTP page documents via a browser. Operation and installation can hardly be easier, and no client installations are required.

Welcome to the Scoop newsroom using Scoop Freedom! Only one computer has an installed system, it's the server hosting all page documents.

Your newspaper or magazine is created like this:

1. The planning editor assigns the coming issue, by arranging the pre-set templates. First a front page, then e.g. an editorial page, followed by news pages, feature pages, etc. Ads can be placed to their pre-set boxes, now or during page editing. With a simple command the page setup is active on the server, where the actual InDesign page documents are accessed.

2. Time to fill the pages with content! You are now a sub-editor, and open the start view from the web browser.

3. Select a page from the thumbnails. That page opens to full-page view.

4. Select a text box that you are assigned to finish.

5. Type and edit the text in the box. Select a style if needed. If it's a header text, check the box “Fit text to box” and the text automatically resizes.

6. Click on Save. The corresponding page document is updated on the server, as well as on all workstations.

7. Select an image box. To place or replace an image, click on Browse and select a your new image. Then click on Upload, and the image is sent to the server, even if you are outside the newsroom. To edit the caption, simply select the caption box below the image, just like any text box.

8. Meanwhile, any other sub-editor or reporter is free to work on the same page from another workstation. Only, two users are not allowed to edit the same box at the same time.

9. Your new edition is ready for print!
Clone your articles
Scoop Freedom lets you clone the same article between several parallel products. It is very easy:

1. Locate your ”master document” with an article box to be replicated to one or more other products.

2. Open a DTP pages to receive the cloned article, e.g. page 4 in product A and page 6 in product B.

3. Select a simple menu command, linking the article boxes in two documents.

4. If needed, repeat with next document to be replicated.

Next time a user edits that article box from the web, or by a page editor to the master document, it will automatically enter all cloned products.
Facts
Scoop Freedom is intended as a backup system for larger newsrooms, or as main editorial system for smaller newsrooms or editions. The production database uses PostgreSQL. No need for workstation installations, a new editor can get access to the pages in just seconds.

Requirements:
• Server - InDesign Server
• Workstation Mac, Windows and Linux: The client can be any computer or client running a standard web browser. WebEdit is developed for Firefox, which is the only browser supported, however we have tested successfully with various modern standard browsers such as e.g. Safari, Opera and Google Chrome.
