InCopy article

An InCopy article is a Scoop article written directly into a layout program. The reporter can now choose between writing and editing articles in the Scoop editor, or in InDesign/InCopy/Quark, with full layout control of the finished articles, which considerably shortens the newspaper process.

The InCopy article is written by the reporter directly in an article box on the DTP document, or a box that is placed on the page document later.
Thanks to the concept of InCopy articles, the reporter can write directly into the final page. An InCopy article can be created by the page editor, based on templates or freehand, and exported as an empty article box for the reporter to fill with text and illustrations. An InCopy article can also be created by the reporter directly from Scoop Edit.
No matter how its created, the InCopy article is instantly visible in Scoop Edit. When the reporter double-clicks on the article it's opened in InCopy for editing.

METHOD 1 –
Article exported from DTP:

The page editor or news manager plans the page in Quark or InDesign. An article frame is created in the layout program with or without photo boxes, but photos can also be placed later.
The page editor selects the frames, selects SCOOP — Export as SCOOP article and selects a Scoop folder for the exported article. The editor’s text frame is highlighted in blue, which means that the article can now be edited and that the article has now been sent as an empty article to the corresponding reporter who can start writing.
When the reporter opens the assignment in Scoop Edit, it is edited directly in InCopy/InDesign, which now becomes the reporter’s text processor. The reporter adds photos, either in their own frames, in template frames or frames that are created by the page editor.
When the reporter starts to edit the article, the page editor’s text frame turns red to show that it is locked.
When the reporter saves and closes the article, a picture of the article appears automatically. The status and text content of the article also appear in the Scoop main window.
During production the page editor may need to reduce or increase the size of an article frame. This is done directly. The new box is presented immediately for the reporter, who now re-edits the article. The reporter has now written an article directly into the newspaper page.

METHOD 2 –
Article created in Scoop Edit:

The reporter chooses to create an InCopy article directly from Scoop Edit with the File – New article command. The article can now be written directly into the layout program, including photos, frames, etc. The article is based on preset templates made to fit the InDesign page documents.
When the reporter opens an InCopy article for editing from Scoop Edit, it is opened as a document in InDesign/InCopy with the finished design. If the desired height has been set, the template opens with the exact height. The document templates are flexible.
When the article is saved, the text appears in the Scoop Edit main window, for both the reporter and the page editor. At any time, the page editor can see the status of the article, including graphics.
When the article is ready, it appears in the ”ready folder”. Photos, etc are stored here before placing. The page editor sees this from Scoop Edit and places the finished article with the DTP program.
